• Have a burglar alarm installed and make sure it is visible.
• Make sure you have quality door and window locks. If a burglar has to smash a window they are much less likely break in.
• Make sure all windows are closed and lock your doors when you go out. Even if you only go out for a short while.
• If you can get into your house without your keys then a burglar can.
• Make sure you keep keys away from any windows and doors.
• Have a chain and ‘spy hole’ fitted on your door, so you can see who’s calling.
• When you go on holiday make sure you cancel any home deliveries as papers of milk left outside your door will make it obvious no one is home.
• Consider having a timer on your switches so lights and the TV turn on when you’re not at home.
• Any visual security measures such as burglar alarms, locks, grilles, shutters and security slighting will also help to deter burglars from your home to choose an easier target.
